Reese went to a swim camp the past 2 weeks. She has taken swimming lessons in the past, but without much success because she would get nervous every week. So we thought we would try a camp where you go 4 days in a row for 2 weeks. Well, it worked! Reese did fantastic and made amazing progress every day!
Our first success was simply wearing goggles. Reese is super sensitive to anything tight, so I thought there was no way she would wear goggles. But, I guess the power of peer pressure got to her when she saw everyone else wearing goggles and put them on without any fuss. She actually loves the goggles and wears them in the bathtub at home.
The first day Reese wouldn't even put her face in the water. But by week two she was putting her face in consistently for 7 seconds at a time. She was also jumping off the side of the pool without the safety of a noodle. Who is this brave girl!?!?
Reese's teacher was Robin who was super nice, and has a little girl named Reese too. Her class consisted of Reese and two "lively" boys. At first I thought she would be intimidated by the boys, but I think the boys actually helped and pushed her to make progress. She would watch what they did, then want to do the same thing. Reese even told the teacher, "No, I don't need a floatie, I want to do it myself."
The teachers evaluated her skills on Tuesday, but she hadn't mastered the backfloat yet so we were told she would have to take the class/camp "Littles 1" again. However, her teacher saw her making so much progress that she had her re-evaluated just two days later and she passed! We are so proud! Keep up the great work, Reese!
