Well Visits

The girls had their annual well visits at the doctor today.  They both had great, pretty uneventful appointments.

Emmy's stats:
Weight 28lb 12oz
Height 3' 1.5"
BMI 14
Vision  test passed
Hearing test passed

Two little concerns for Emmy.  (1) She currently has a fever, so had a strep test which came back negative.  She probably just has a little bug.  (2) We talked about how Emmy likes to eat a lot of treats.  She was really listening to Dr. Bryan and told Daddy tonight, "I can't eat ANY more treaties."  I didn't correct her that Dr. Bryan said treats in moderation, not complete deprivation.

Reese's stats:
Weight 50lb
Height 3' 10.75"
BMI 16
Vision test passed
Hearing test did not pass

A couple little concerns for Reese.  (1) Since she did not pass her hearing test, she needs to come back in late June/early July for a re-test.  Dr. Bryan isn't overly concerned because Reese simply did not hear the lowest tone some of the time; some of the time she did hear it.  Dr. Bryan thinks Reese probably just has a little cold so didn't hear as well.  She decided to have us schedule a retest because this is the same low tone Reese did not pass for her Kindergarten screening when she was 4 years old.  At that time, she passed her retest.  (2) As always, Dr. Bryan and I talked a bit about Reese's "excited face" and her tactile sensory sensitivity.  Dr. Bryan thinks the two are linked and due to the fact that Reese has a little anxiety.  She recommended some relaxation tactics, not so much that she needs them now, but could help her in the future.  So Reese came home and did a yoga DVD, which she really enjoyed.  She especially liked the volcano, warrior, and triangle poses.  I didn't have my phone handy, but she looked pretty cute doing yoga!

This afternoon Emmy still wasn't feeling great, so she took a nap with Leeo.  Sweet kitty slept right on her to keep her warm and cozy.

Free Bike

Thanks to Ellie (Heather and Cory) for the free bike for Reese!  This one fits her much better so she can really cruise the neighborhood.  The bike was free... that is until Todd ran it over with his car and we had to take it in to be repaired.

I like how Reese wears her softball helmet to bike.  But she told me today, "Can we get a new bike helmet?  This one is a little embarrassing."

Palm Sunday

Reese walked in church and waved palm branches for Palm Sunday today.  Poor Emmy was home with a little fever.

Soap Eye

Emmy got soap in her eye tonight while taking a bath.  She was screaming and crying, so I was helping her flush it out.  Then I glanced over at Reese whose lips were trembling and she started bawling too because she was so worried about Emmy.  I'm not sure who cried more or longer.

When they both settled down, we crawled into bed to read a book.  The girls could not agree on a book to read and kept arguing back and forth.  I could see Emmy really thinking and she soon said "But Reese, my eyes hurts really so bad."  She was PERFECTLY fine by that time, but she used her eye to get her way!  Wow!  She's only 3!  And it worked -- Reese immediately gave in.

Mister Meets Libby & Leeo

We had fun puppy sitting Mister today.  We took him for walks, played chase, and gave him lots of love.  Reese even took him outside by herself.  The two sat together on the front porch talking for about 20 minutes.  Click here for a video of Reese trying to get Mister off the porch.  A girl and her (neighbor's) dog.

We brought him over to our house for the first time and introduced him to the cats.  Mister LOVED the cats, was super excited, and ran laps around the house.  Leeo was interested at first, but then fell asleep in the chair.  Libby didn't know what to think and kept her eye on him every second.  Happy to report there was no barking, scratching, or spraying!

After we watched Mister for about 6 hours, Reese said she had fun but knows we're not ready to get a dog yet.

Bunco Party

Eight out of the twelve of us Kindergarten moms got together for a Bunco party tonight.  It was fun to play (a little) and talk (a lot).  We had lots of laughs debunking some of the myths our Kindergartners were bringing home, like...

  • Robert is still 4 years old (he actually turned 5 the first week of school)
  • Nora went on a 6-week vacation in Hawaii (she actually went to Florida for 4 days)
  • A goat peed on Reese's mitten on the field trip today (she said nothing like this happened)

The Letter X

For school, Reese was assigned the letter X and had to return it decorated with object(s) that started with the letter.  Good thing we had an old bath toy with a xylophone.  After some scissors and hot glue, it turned out cute and you can even remove the sticks to actually play a song.  I must admit, I was pretty proud of myself for this one.

Reese's Hair

First time in a pony tail for school.

She kept it in all day!

Curls!

Emmy's Escapades

Cuddling with Libby.

She can now buckle herself!  It's great, except it take her about 10 minutes.

Logan came over to play, and they decided to clean the floors.

Looking very serious and mischievous while helping me clean the wine glasses.

I told her to pose for a picture.  The first thing she did?  Lift up her shirt.

Prayers

After our prayers last night, Daddy told Emmy we can thank God for anything.  She said, "Thank you God for building us a big house and thank you Jesus for letting Reese love me."

Also, recently Emmy got very mad about something (I don't remember what).  She was so frustrated and yelled, "I don't like anybody!" but then in almost the same breath yelled,"But I love God, I love Jesus, and I love Heather!"

Happy Birthday Heather

We had so much fun celebrating Heather's 40th birthday at The Shout House dueling piano bar.  Click here for a video of the surprise -- her sister and some friends from up north joined us at the party!

The girls had a fun night too.  Kaitlyn baby-sat all 4 girls and they had a big sleepover at our house.  When Reese and Ellie woke up at 7:30, they came into my room and asked if they could go wake up Kaitlyn in the guest room to make them some breakfast.  I told them Kaitlyn was off duty, so I made breakfast instead.

The Wizard of Oz Monkeys

Tonight, we enjoyed The Wizard of Oz play at St. John's.

The K-2nd graders kicked off the night with some adorable monkey songs.  They sang a monkey counting song that went like this...
Monkey 1 and Monkey 2, Monkeys do the hula hoop
 Monkey 3 and Monkey 4, Monkeys skateboard to the store
 Monkey 5 and Monkey 6, Monkeys jump on Pogo stick
 Monkey 7 and Monkey 8, Monkeys make a silly face
 Monkey 9 and Monkey 10, Monkeys hug a monkey friend Eee Eee Aah Aah Ooo Ooo Ooo
 And the theme from the old TV show The Monkees...
Here we come, walkin'
Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Ev'ry one we meet.

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

We go wherever we want to,
do what we like to do
We don't have time to get restless,
There's always something new.

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the young generation,
And we've got something to say.

Any time, Or anywhere,
Just look over your shoulder
Guess who'll be standing there

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

Then, the 3rd-5th graders put on a great performance.   It was a fun night!

Report Card

Twirly Girls

Thanks for the new Twirly Girl dresses, Grandma!  We love that these dresses have "wings"!

This Week's Funnies

A few funny things the girls said this week...

We were at toddler story time at the library and Emmy was listening intently to the librarian.  She was talking about the word JUNGLE, and said an animal name for each letter.  I agree some of the animal names were a bit strange...
J = jaguar
U = umbrella bird
N = night monkey
G = gorilla
L = lion
E = elephant
When the librarian was done explaining the animals, Emmy turned to me and whispered, "I don't think she is telling the truth."

I don't remember how this conversation started, but we were talking about how God is always with you and always takes care of you.  With that Emmy looked surprised and asked, "Is Daddy God???"

On Tuesday, I had to pick Reese up early from ESP to get to dance pictures.  I told Reese that morning that she would still be going to ESP, but I would be coming about 3:00 or 3:15 to pick her up.  I could see Reese's mind churning, and she quickly told me her thought process, "Ok, so this is what you do.  First, check for us having snack in the cafeteria.  If we are not there, walk down the hallway and peak into the ESP room.  If we are not there, then come outside to the playground." She's our little thinker and planner.

Similar to above, on the way to school this morning, I saw her friend Mara's minivan pulling out of her driveway.  We didn't know that Mara lived there, so I told Reese that I would show her Mara's house on the way home from school today.  Reese loves Mara, so was very excited about this, until she thought through the process and said, "But on the way home from school we'll be on the other side of the road and I won't be able to see Mara's house as well.  So maybe you can show me today after school again in the morning when I can see better."  She thinks SO HARD about everything.  I hope this doesn't give her an ulcer some day.
