12 Weeks Old

Emmy is 12 weeks old today, and time has flown by.  She's a very good baby.  We are so lucky to have her to love!

Here are some of the things she's currently doing...
- She sleeps great at night.  She has been going 7-9 hours straight at night, wakes for about 20 minutes to eat, then back to sleep for another 1-3 hours. Champion!  She's not a great sleeper during the day.  She basically just takes little cat naps throughout the day on my lap.  She startles easily when Reese makes noise (which is usually singing or playing LOUDLY).  Maybe I'll have to start having her nap upstairs with the baby monitor on.
- She eats a lot and often. She eats nearly every hour during the day, probably because she goes so many hours without food at night. When hungry, she demands to be fed NOW and screams at the top of her lungs, gets real tears (I can't help but laugh because I know she's fine - she just ate an hour ago!) until she's fed.
- She's NOT fan of riding in the car, but will tolerate it if someone rides in the back with her to entertain her. At this point the person entertaining has to be an adult. I hope she will accept Reese's entertainment soon -- and that Reese will actually entertain her.
- She's becoming very particular. So much for my easy going baby. She basically does not let me put her down all day long without crying. It's a challenge to even make dinner or fold a load of laundry. I hope I can find a toy or gadget that will distract her for a longer period of time soon. Reese is starting to get used to Emmy crying. Instead of getting upset like she used to, Reese now says, "It's okay that she cries," and sometimes yells at her saying, "Emmy! Stop it! Stop crying!" Then we have to have a little talk about the fact that Emmy is just a baby and we should not yell at her for crying.
- She has discovered her hands.  She looks at them and sometimes goes cross eyed as they come closer to her face, then BAM she smacks herself in the face.  Oh, it's tough to be a baby!
- She's atarted reaching for things like toys , blankets, and my face.
- She's NOT a fan of tummy time.  She'll tolerate it for about 30 seconds, then screams until you pick her up.  I'll keep working on tummy time, but she's pretty strong and can hold her head upright without any problem.
- She can give a great pouty bottom lip before she cries.  She looks so cute when she does it, I can't help but laugh.
- She appears to already have separation anxiety when I'm out of her sight.  Isn't that supposed to happen after 6 months?  She cries when I leave the room if she's in her bouncy seat or swing.  She also cries when others pick her up -- it takes a day or so to build up her trust.  Then, she has a huge look of relief when I return to the room.  Ugh, this is exactly how Reese was and we still deal with some separation issues.
- She gives the biggest, best smiles.  She gets a little twinkle in her eye, then one side of her mouth smiles first (giving her a crooked smile) before she breaks into a full blown grin.  Its' the best!
She loves to talk and be talked to.  She swings her arms and kicks her legs when talking to her.  She loves to participate in the conversation too by babbling up a storm.  Looks like she's going to be a big talker like her sister.  Daddy and I won't be able to get a word in!
